The Quality of life related to health is a multidimensional concept based on the physical, psychological and social domains but also on the biological and clinical domains.

Improving the quality of life after cancer treatment is at the heart of the new 2014-2019 cancer plan, with objective 7 as the focus of improving quality of life through access to supportive care. . 

The study of the quality of life of subjects suffering from cancer constitutes a major challenge for understanding the determinants of health in the face of the after-effects of treatments. 

The results of studies on the quality of life of patients with cancer will make it possible to assess in the long term, the benefit of setting up an adapted care offer, considering that the quality of life of patients, in particularly in the elderly, represents a major challenge for development and resilience in the face of cancer.

(1) Quality of life and prostate cancer

Among the after-effects of treatments associated with the management of prostate cancer, chronic urinary function disorders and sexual difficulties are often described. As a result, the diagnostic and therapeutic management of prostate cancer can have an impact on the quality of life of patients, taking into account these adverse effects occurring following treatment.

Among all the studies carried out, no study to date has allowed the evaluation of these disorders in patients with prostate cancer in the Caribbean region. Given the after-effects linked to treatment, carrying out such a survey will provide for the first time precise information on the main determinants of the overall and sexual quality of life as well as on the care pathway for patients suffering from cancer of the the prostate in the Martinique region.

Given the need to promote information on infertility delivered to patients and medical practitioners, this analysis will make it possible to identify the profile of patients with prostate cancer who may require a personalized fertility preservation offer.
